Healthful Gelow

Healthful Gelow

This is such a great food for all ages! What I love about making my own "Jello" is I avoid all of these INGREDIENTS: SUGAR, GELATIN, ADIPIC ACID (FOR TARTNESS), CONTAINS LESS THAN 2% OF NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FLAVOR, DISODIUM PHOSPHATE AND SODIUM CITRATE (CONTROL ACIDITY), FUMARIC ACID (FOR TARTNESS), RED 40.

My gelatin contains two ingredients. Watermelon and gelatin.

I love gelatin because it has SO many health benefits! We personally started making it for my daughter to get her hair to grow, and WOW has it grown!

Collagen is great for hair, skin, nails, the GI tract, and joints. It also can serve as a great protein source for your smoothies (just make sure to get the collagen instead of gelatin)!

Ingredients:

4 cups watermelon juice (I used about half a large watermelon)

4 T Great Lakes Unflavored Gelatin

Directions:

  1. Blend chunks of watermelon in high powered blender until you have 4 cups of juice.

  2. Take half of the juice and place in a small saucepan and warm. You are warming the juice just enough to dissolve the gelatin. You do not want the juice to boil.

  3. Add gelatin and stir until dissolved.

  4. Pour the warmed gelatin mixture and the remaining juice in a 8x8 dish.

  5. Refrigerate overnight.

  6. Cut and enjoy :)

Notes:

I just cut my gelow into squares for my daughter and I. You can always make things more fun by using cookie cutters to make different shapes.

You can also make all sorts of fruit flavors! Since I make mine off the cuff, I don't have the specifics for additional flavors right now, but soon!

She was "patiently" waiting while I was taking photos. Next time, I had better give her a piece first BEFORE taking pics! Haha
